"I have always been interested by Depression Era stories, and this book FORGED IN A COUNTY CRUCIBLE grabbed my interest from day one. I literally read it all in one sitting. From the first pages to the engaging tales of neigboring families, it is a fascinating read, transporting you directly to that time period as you experience daily life with Joe's family on a Tennessee Farm. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in history, or looking for a terrific read. ~ Kari, Reader
"There is no indication that Joe was educated or trained to be a professional writer, but he gets the ideas and feelings out to the reader. When he writes of waking up in an unheated room in a house with no indoor plumbing and going across the road into the woods to relieve himself one can almost feel the sting of the freezing cold. When he writes of walking six miles to school it is easy to visualize him as an Air Force bomber. ~ W. T. Toney, jr.
Bill Toney has a Master’s degree and completed all requirements except the dissertation for a Ph.D. in criminal justice with a concentration in police administration. He was on the criminal justice faculty of Stephen F. Austin State University at Nacogdoches, Texas, for eleven years including two years as a director of the program. He has held positions of chief of a Border Patrol sector, the Navy rank of commander as an intelligence specialist, and others.

Joe White's book, NRA THE INSIDE STORY, is a very interesting read. It accurately covers the inner workings of a large and influential Association during some very controversial times. The book will be of interest to those who have no interest in NRA per se because of the easy reading style that the inner workings of a large Association are covered.
NRA THE INSIDE STORY brought back many memories, things that I lived through but had long since forgotten. Joe's clear and conversational way of writing makes this book entertaining in addition to being very informative. NRA Members looking at their Association from the outside will find it fascinating and sometimes maybe even a little disturbing. Joe White did a great job for NRA during the short time he was with us and he has done a great job with his book.

"I enjoyed this most interesting partial autobiography, which at the same time is also an advanced primer of smart, shrewd, and carefully thought-out, analyzed and investigated Real Estate investing. You wrote a great textbook, disguised as an interesting 'story', and I congratulate you." ~Mel Fine

"Joe, Thanks for sending me a copy of your new book. I think it is great! Your writing is very down-to-earth and personal. People can believe what you are telling them because it's explained exactly the way you experienced it. That is what has made my programs so popular. It's not a lot of hype but the down to earth facts of life when you invest in real estate. The 'get rich quick with no money down gurus come and go, but books like yours will continue to draw an audience that wants to know the real truth. ~ Milt Tanzer.

"Joe White is one of those natively competent people who always manage to be successful in any endeavor. He became interested in competitive pistol shooting, so he became a national champion. Interested in flying, he went to a top spot in the Border Patrol air operation. Immigration matters? Joe served as a District Director, a top field position, and as Assistant Regional Commissioner for Investigations for the Southeastern U.S. And, as he served with distinction in all of these varied positions, he also proved to be a keen observer; of the job, and of the people he worked with, the people he supervised, and the people who supervised him. Not surprisingly, he has proved to be a successful writer.
He describes the positions and the people as though he were explaining to an old acquaintance what he had done for a living. The result is an insight into a more or less normal bureaucracy. He is easy to read, often humorous, sometimes ribald. For a survivor of the same bureaucracy, it is a gold mine of memories, some good, some not so good, but all a huge pleasure to recall." ~Robert W. Brewster
