FORGED IN A
COUNTRY CRUCIBLE by Joseph C. White
is entertaining, interesting, informative and inspiring. Perhaps
knowing him for several years and having read his next book,
HILLBILLY IN THE REAL ESTATE JUNGLE,
helped. (FORGED IN A COUNTRY CRUCIBLE) is a story of growing
up on a Tennessee farm, performing adult labor as a teenager,
overcoming the hardships of living and moving on to successful
careers in the Air Force, federal civil service, business
and a nationwide non-profit organization.
There is no indication that Joe was educated
or trained to be a professional writer, but he gets the ideas
and feelings out to the reader. When he writes of waking up
in an unheated room in a house with no indoor plumbing and
going across the road into the woods to relieve himself one
can almost feel the sting of the freezing cold. When he writes
of walking six miles to school it is easy to visualize him
as an Air Force bomber.
