My daughter gave me Joseph C. White's book, FORGED IN A COUNTY CRUCIBLE for my birthday, and I have truly enjoyed every single word. The writing is succint, clear, and creates a vivid window into what things were really like at this important time in our history. Joe White has done a tremendous service to members of our generation, by telling his story in his matter of fact, yet descriptive tone. It has brought back a lot of memories for me. I will always treasure this book.

I have always been interested by Depression Era stories, and this book FORGED IN A COUNTY CRUCIBLE grabbed my interest from day one. I literally read it all in one sitting. From the first pages to the engaging tales of neigboring families, it is a fascinating read, transporting you directly to that time period as you experience daily life with Joe's family on a Tennessee Farm. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in history, or looking for a terrific read.
